City Profile Manchester is the largest city in New Hampshire. Incorporated in 1846, Manchester’s wealth and vibrancy began on the Merrimack River over 11,000 years ago when the Abenakis of the region fished the falls the community is so familiar with. The historic mill buildings that have defined the face of the Queen City began producing textiles during the industrial revolution under the direction of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. In the early 20th century, the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company was the largest producer of cotton textiles in the world. Much has changed since then, but Manchester continues to be an entrepreneurial hub in New England. Manchester’s culture is steeped in history, art, and music. At any given time in the city visitors and citizens alike can enjoy local theater, music, dance, festivals, farmers markets, expositions and so much more.
